Custer split his forces into three groups. Descending the side of the Mountain through the trees, his men discovered the Indian camp. It was four Miles long and contained 10,000 Indians !! They saw him and immediately surrounded him and his men; there was now no escape.  General Custer and his men fought courageously, but the battle ended within two hours; not one survived to tell the tale. 
Custer and his Cavalry passed into Legend and into Myth, their pictures decorating many a Far West bar and Hotel room for centuries to come.
