Harold Godwinson was the Cousin of William of Normandie. Swearing an oath and loyalty to grant his Norman cousin the throne of England, Harold reneged on his promise, breaking his oath, and instead harold usurped, claimed Englands crown for himself. 
 
William of Normandie was furious. Assembling a Fleet and a large army he landed in England to claim his throen and kingship from the traitor Harold.
 
The scene  was set for a decisive confrontation between the two rival cousins.
 
In 1066, English Pretender King Harold Godwinson marched his army North to fight a battle against these warriors at Stamford Bridge. Defeating the Viking Leader, he then marched back down to South England, where he fought against the Army of William, Duke of Normandy, the rightful King of England. Weilding mighty long-handed Axes, the House karls made their final stand on a Hill, where Harold Godwinson fell, finally, slain by a Norman arrow. William of Normandy was crowned King on Christmas Day 1066, marking the beginning of the Norman Kingdom of Norman England.
